Play Nice.
We're pretty lucky to live on a quiet street with a large viewing area to park in front of our house, but as we count down to Christmas Day, we start getting more and more traffic so the neighbourhood gets less and less quiet. Not to be a nag, but here are some suggestions to keep our neighbours and other fellow viewers happy:
In short, please practice common sense and respect to others. Thank you!
- Understandably, please don't stop where it blocks the view for others.
- Keep your stereo volume down to keep the neighbourhood peaceful and quiet. Be extra cognizant of this if you open your windows.
- Please turn off noisy engines. Besides loud stereos, the sound of rumbling engines can penetrate our homes. Try to avoid honking your horn as well. 😐
- After parking, it's a real bonus to others if you turn off your headlights (but maybe leave the "park" lights on), especially if you're facing other viewers head-on... but remember to turn them back on before driving away! If you turn off your headlights and your daytime running lights are still shining into other peoples' windshields, setting your parking brake usually turns them off. If that doesn't work, after setting the parking brake, try turning your engine off and back on again. Sheesh... this all sounds complicated, right? 😜
- This is less complicated: If your battery is can handle it, how about just turning your engine off to save some fuel and only starting it up if your windows fog up?
- Also, please don't back up your car over the sidewalk and park on our neighbour's grass or concrete pad in order to watch the show out your front windshield and light up our display with your headlights. It's happened... 🙄
- Please don't wander into our display. There are delicate items and wires to snag or trip on.
- And please don't litter... in front of our house or anywhere else for that matter. 😉
In short, please practice common sense and respect to others. Thank you!
